Creation of a digital 3D model of watercourses in the Morava River basin

The main motivation of the client for implementing the contract

Povodí Moravy regularly updates flood risks for the Morava River basin. The design firm Aquatis a.s. requires geodetic surveying of watercourses and related flood zones for precise mathematical modeling and prediction of flood risks. Modern remote sensing technologies and digital terrain models enable the creation of additional mathematical models and calculations, primarily for flood risk prediction.

Project implementation

The project was divided into several key phases:

  1. Data acquisition using remote sensing methods – LiDAR scanning, imaging, geodetic measurement. Calculation of primary data, classification and cleaning of point clouds, creation of orthomosaics.
  2. Processing of digital terrain models, digitization of bank edges, creation of valley profiles, flow profiles of bridges.
  3. Creation of descriptive and elevation situations of water infrastructure and related transportation infrastructure, creation of a purpose-built digital technical map.

Handover and verification on the client’s side

The client was provided with digital outputs, including 3D lines of bank edges, digital terrain models of selected watercourses, cross-sections, and purpose-built digital technical maps, covering more than 200 km of watercourses across the Morava region between the cities of Ivančice, Rožnov pod Radhoštěm, Loučná nad Desnou and Břeclav.

Project information

Subject of the contract:

Creation of a digital twin of the Morava River basin watercourses for the purpose of updating flood risks.

Client:

Design firm Aquatis, a.s.

Location:

Entire Morava region, selected watercourses

Project duration

10/2024 – 01/2025

Scope of the contract:

201 km of watercourses, 99 profiles (cross-sections of the watercourse, bridges)
