Digitalization of overhead high-voltage lines

The main motivation of the client for implementing the contract
Laser scanning and photogrammetry represent an effective and reliable method of remote sensing for obtaining spatial data from large areas. Using LiDAR and aerial imaging, the client will acquire geoinformation data about the high-voltage power lines, covering a total length of 370 km, and about the adjacent protective zones. Aerial scanning will provide information on hazardous and unauthorized objects in the protective zone, objects threatening the power lines, defects in the tower structures, corridor management, and other data derived from the processed information.
Project implementation
The project was divided into several key phases:
- Analysis of the materials
- Preparation of the flight plan
- Calculation and processing of data – trajectories, point clouds, images, elements of exterior orientation
- Linking information from the temperature sensor with coordinates
Handover and verification on the client’s side
The client requested primarily the original data generated through remote sensing, aerial scanning, and photogrammetry. The delivery of the requested data included point clouds, aerial images, elements of exterior orientation, and data from the temperature sensor. These can further serve as a basis for evaluating information about hazardous and unauthorized objects in the protective zone, objects that could damage the power lines, defects in the towers, data for corridor management, and other uses of the obtained spatial data.
